Maggie Valley, Harold Linton Leatherwood, age 89, formerly of Johnson Branch, has gone on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Jarvis and Pearl Clark Leatherwood and was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Godleski. He was a US Navy World War II veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre and later retired from Dayco with 39-years service. Harold was an avid Atlanta Braves and NC Tar Heel basketball fan and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jimmie Bradley Leatherwood; three sons, Tom Leatherwood and his wife, Betty and Charles Leatherwood and his wife, Brenda, of Maggie Valley and Bob Leatherwood and his wife, Lisa, of Waynesville; six grandchildren; Amy Carver (Justin), Lisa Carrington (Severo), David Leatherwood (Amanda), and Tessa, Zoë, and Ally Leatherwood; and three great-grandchildren, Kolbie Carrington, and Jake and Josie Carver. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Brian Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 5202 and American Legion Post 47. Serving as pallbearers will be David Leatherwood, Justin Carver, James Bradley, Hunter Plemmons, Ray McElroy, and Mike Freeman. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
