Harold "Malvin" Lhoest, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at VA Medical Center.
Harold was predeceased by his parents Francis and Nell (Meikle) Lhoest; his wife Estelle (Veale) Lhoest; son H. Wayne Lhoest and his wife, Melissa (Moats) Lhoest.
Harold was born on March 7, 1942, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania and lived there until he was 12. His parents then relocated to Bridgeton, New Jersey where he grew up and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1961. Harold enlisted in the US Air Force and traveled the world while serving. While in the military, he married his high school sweetheart, Estelle Veale. Harold studied aircraft mechanics at Teterboro Airport in north Jersey. After leaving the military he went back home and settled in Millville, New Jersey and worked at Millville Airport as a helicopter mechanic for many years. After retirement, he moved to Waynesville, North Carolina.
Harold was a gifted bird carver and created many beautiful pieces which he gave away. He was an avid hunter in his younger days and also a ham radio enthusiast participating in many events relaying info. Harold also obtained his pilot’s license and built and flew his own ultra-light plane.
Harold is survived by his granddaughter Dana Moats and her family; Dee Hibbs; and several cousins.
The care of Mr. Lhoest has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
