Harold Muddiman

May 12, 1916 — January 13, 2013

Lake Junaluska, Harold Julian Muddiman, age 96, of Norton Way, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at The Homestead. Born in Lee County, Virginia, he was a former resident of Great Falls, Virginia and Valrico, Florida, and had resided in Haywood County for the past twelve years. He was the son of the late Otto Lester and Sarah Louise Unthank Muddiman and was also preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Louise Muddiman and one brother, Edgar Warren Muddiman. He attended Virginia Tech where he received his BS Degree in mechanical engineering. During World War II, Harold was employed in the defense industry and later worked as an electrical engineer for the Veterans Administration's hospitals for fifteen years before his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, photography and collecting stamps. Harold became interested in genealogy late in his life and researched his family history extensively without the use of computers. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Edna Harrison Muddiman; one brother, George Stephen Muddiman; his children, Harold Muddiman, Jr., Sheila M. Fite, Donald Muddiman, and Elizabeth M. Denton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Reverend Tim McConnell and Reverend William W. McNeil will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
