Harriett Robbins

July 5, 1937 — December 5, 2008

Maggie Valley, Harriett Mae Wilkes Robbins, age 71, died Friday, December 5, 2008 at her residence. A native of Moore County, NC, Haywood County was her home for over 20 years. She was the daughter of Juanita Wilkes and the late Grantham Lee Wilkes. Harriett was a very accomplished musician, most notably on the piano and organ. Her music and personality took her and her family to many interesting people and places. She was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed traveling. Some of her other interests were visiting shows, exhibits, parks and casinos, eating out, camping, yard sales, playing cards, the ocean, fishing, golfing and dancing. She was a member of the Junaluska Bridge Club, Order of the Eastern Star, proud member of the Frog Level Philharmonic and especially loved playing music and entertaining at Saratoga's. Harriett was a member of Maggie Valley United Methodist Church. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 53 years, John C. "J.C." Robbins; one son, Steve Robbins and his wife, Gail of Asheboro, NC; one sister, Kay Wilkes of CA; two brothers, David Wilkes of Belmont and Grant Wilkes and his wife, Jean of Maggie Valley ;one niece, Nicole Wilkes and her sister of the heart, Alaska Presley of Maggie Valley. A celebration of Harriett's life will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
