Harry Vernon Boyd
Harry V. Boyd, 89, of Lake Junaluska passed away on October 14, 2023.
Born and raised in Sparta Illinois, he was the son of the late David Brown Boyd and Annie Holdoway Boyd. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Hastings Boyd who passed away on June 23, 2023. He is also preceded in death by two brothers David Brown Boyd III (Maxine) and John Holdoway Boyd and son-in-law, Jim Putnal.
Harry loved his church and singing in the choir. He had a beautiful tenor voice. Lieutenant Colonel Boyd served his country for 28 years in the Air Force and traveled the world as a C130 pilot. Highlights of his career included a tour in Kaiserslautern Germany from 1958 to 1961 and delivering a C130 airplane to Sudan Africa. Harry was an avid golfer starting in high school and enjoyed golfing with family and friends throughout his life. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and enjoyed Scottish country dancing.
Harry will be deeply missed by those who knew him well. Cherished memories will forever remain etched in the hearts of his loved ones. He leaves behind two daughters, Barbara Boyd Mayo (Michael Lawyer), and Debbie Boyd Putnal; a son, Steve Boyd (Cheryl); seven grandchildren, Brittany Pomeroy, Ryan Mayo, Stephen Mayo (Sarah), Julie Putnal, Katie Putnal, Joshua Boyd (Jeannie) Logan Johnson (Kristen); three great grandchildren, Ella Pomeroy, Harry Pomeroy, and Malcolm Jett Johnson; several nieces, nephews and family friend Barbara Greene.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, with Reverend Holly Davis officiating followed by military honors. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.

The care of Mr. Boyd has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
