Harry Burnette

October 28, 1921 — May 3, 2012

Canton-Harry Clifton Burnette, age 90, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at MedWest-Haywood. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Claude and Fern Singleton Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Hardin Burnette, who died in 2006; three sisters, Beatrice Rogers, Frances Mann and his twin sister, Hazel Rollins. He retired from Dayco and was a life time member of Longs United Methodist Church. Harry was a United States WWII Army veteran having earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze, Star. He was a prisoner of war for 7 months in Germany. He was a member of the Bethel Lions Club, where he held many offices. He was survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Hardin Burnette; two sons, Terry Burnette (Barbara) of Asheville and Dr. Michael Burnette (Pkay) of Tampa, Florida; and two grandchildren, Alexis and Sean Burnette both of Tampa, Florida. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gerald Denham and Reverend Dr. Riley Covin officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
