Waynesville, H. Edward "Ed" Davis, age 92, of Zemery Lane passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at The Homestead. A native of McDowell County, he was raised in Hazelwood, the son of the late Theodore and Jessie Taylor Davis. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Joyce Davis; three sisters, Willie Swanger, Evelyn Bischoff, Eloise Holleback, and six brothers, John, Kenneth, Joe, Robert, Charles, and Theodore Davis, Jr. Ed graduated from Waynesville Township High School. He was a US Navy veteran and proudly served during World War II at the same time as his six brothers. He was later employed in the Maintenance Department of Dayco retiring with 30 years of service. Ed enjoyed restoring Ford Mustangs with his son and working on lawn tractors with his grandson, Matthew. Ed also enjoyed sitting on the porch with his family and was a member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Iva Lee Messer Davis; two daughters, Judith Ann Shockey and her husband, Kent, of Savannah, Georgia and Lisa Davis of Waynesville; one son, Eddie Davis, of Canton; and four grandchildren, Mauri and Shannon Shockey, Matthew Richardson and Madison Banks; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jay T. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery with military rites. Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Davis, Matthew Richardson, Wayne Ashe, Benson Davis, Richard Davis, and Kevin Fowler. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
