Hattie Carswell

Waynesville-Hattie V. ''Granny'' Carswell, age 94, of Raymond Drive, died Friday, October 25, 2002 at Autumn Care Nursing Home.

She was a native of Burke County having lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Fannie Simpson Hallyburton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Carswell, who died in 1982.

She attended Fairview Baptist Church and was their pianist for 35 years. She loved working in her flower garden, feeding birds and squirrels and fishing.

She is survived by two daughters, Loretta McClure and Glenda McFalls and her husband, Les, all of Waynesville; two sons, Wayne Carswell and his wife Shirley, and Blayne Carswell and his wife Shirley, all of Waynesville; two sisters, Laura Scroggs and Mahala Anderson, both of Hickory; three brothers, Jones Hallyburton, of Bear Poplar, NC, Reid Hallyburton, of Mt. Gilead, NC and Sam Hallyburton, of Bridgewater, NC; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2002 at the Fairview Baptist Church. Reverend Jack Robinson and Reverend Alcy Kates, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Sunday, prior to the services, at the church. Burial will be at the Family Cemetery. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
