Hazel Bishop

September 22, 1927 — August 4, 2013

Waynesville, Hazel Arrington Bishop, age 85, a resident of Silver Bluff Village and former resident of Yates Cove, passed away on Sunday, August 04, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Norman and Nellie Bradley Arrington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Bishop, who died in 2003; an infant son, Gary Norman Bishop; and three brothers and sisters. Hazel was a loving member of Woodland Baptist Church. She was devoted to her family and loved crafts and cooking. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Bishop Mathis and her husband, Kermit, of Roxboro; a son, Craig Bishop and his wife, Coni, of Waynesville; four sisters, Lucille Davis, Pauline Massie, and Betty Greene, all of Clyde and Dorothy Allison and her husband, Don, of Waynesville; one brother, Eugene Arrington, of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Kelly Mathis and his wife, Amy, and Brittany and Justin Bishop; and three great-grandchildren, McKenna, Colby, and Reagan Mathis, who loved their "Great Grannie Bishop." Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Williams officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Kelly Mathis, Justin and Dean Bishop, Jerry Lewis, Eddie Stout, Jim Smith and Danny and Jason Dowell. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith and Kevin Massie and Taylor Bishop. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior. Memorials may be made to Woodland Baptist Church, 545 Crabtree Road, Waynesville, NC 28785 or Beta Cemetery Fund, c/o Jerry Lewis, 8387 State Hwy. 58 South, Decatur, TN 37322.
