Hazel Burrell

August 10, 1925 — May 4, 2011

Hazel Penland Burrell, 85, died Wednesday, May 4th at Pisgah Manor Rehab Center.
A native of Asheville, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Maude Holcombe Penland. She was the wife of the late Clarence R. Burrell, they had been married 61 years. Hazel graduated from Sand Hill School and had retired after 31 years from American Enka, also working in the Naval Yard in Maryland during the war.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Paul, Grover and Dick Penland and 3 sisters, Mary and Luna Penland and Josie Murray.
Surviving are her children, Ronnetta B. Trantham and husband, James, of Asheville, Clarence Ray Burrell, Jr. and wife Martha of Mars Hill, Jeanette B. Flowers and husband, Charlie, of Simpsonville, SC and Brenda B. Case and husband, Henry, of Candler; grandchildren, Ray and Chad Trantham, Brent and JR Case, Wendy Parker and Ray Burrell, III; 12 great-grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren.
Hazel loved her family, going to yard sales, feeding the birds and raising flowers and vegetables. She will be missed.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 7th at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler. The family will receive friends at 10:30AM on Saturday at Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn.
