Hazel Chapman

July 31, 1917 — January 19, 2006

Canton- Hazel Rogers Chapman - age 88 of the North Canton Road died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the Brian Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and a daughter of the late Robert French and Bly McCracken Rogers. Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her husband, Jack W. Chapman, who died in 1991 and two brothers, Cassius M. and George V. Rogers. She was employed by Haywood County Schools for 42 years having served as an elementary school teacher at Beaverdam School. She was a graduate of Asheville Normal School and a member of North Canton Baptist Church having served as the church organist and pianist. She is survived by one son, Joseph Chapman and his wife Joann of Canton; one sister, Christine R. Kiser of Newport News, VA; one brother, David Rogers of Clyde; one granddaughter, Stephanie Chapman of Canton and one grandson, Major Joseph A. Chapman of the U.S. Army stationed in Laurel, MD. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Keith Clark and Reverend W.O. "Bill" Henson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1275, Canton, NC 28716 or to North Canton Baptist Church, 735 N. Canton Road, Canton, NC 28716.
