Waynesville-Hazel Juanita Collins, age 84, of Walker Road, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Brooks County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Clower and Ruth Edmonson Winters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Collins, who died in 1980. She was very active in the Dawson Street Baptist Church in Thomasville, Georgia. She was the first female independent insurance agent in South Georgia and was very successful in her career prior to moving to Haywood County. She was former owner and operator of Grandview Lodge. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville and a former Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by three sons, Glenn Collins, Jr. and his wife, Polly, of Carrollton, Georgia, John Collins and his wife, Judy, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Ronald Collins and his wife, Carol, of Dothan, Alabama; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and two special caregivers, Dan Desjardins and Barbara Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Rev. Dr. Robert Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest. John, Ronald and Glenn Collins, Jr., Dan Desjardins, Barbara Smith, Lee Starnes, and Tom Tucker, Sr. will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
