Lake Junaluska-Hazel Rhinehart Hipps, age 90, of Hospital Drive, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late William Robert and Nora Downs Rhinehart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Gudger Hipps who died in 1991; two sons, John Richard and Charles William Hipps; and a sister, Elizabeth Gregory. She was an employee of Belk's before her retirement and was an avid gardener and homemaker. She was a charter member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, past president of Lake Junaluska Home Demonstrator's Club, a former 4-H leader, and an active member of United Methodist Women and the Wesley Sunday-School Class. She is survived by one daughter, Wanda H. Miller, and her husband, Bob of Waynesville; a son, James Bruce Hipps, and his wife, Brenda, of Waynesville; a daughter-in-law, Jane Bates Hipps, of Waynesville; two sisters, Venia Brown and Willie Killian both of Lake Junaluska; seven grandchildren, Laura Rodell, Susan Barr, Lisa Medford, Rick Boyd, Elizabeth Hipps, Lt. William Hipps, and Dr. John Hipps; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 on Friday, April 30, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Reverend Robert E. Fuquay and Reverend Woody Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. on Friday prior to the services, and at other times, the family will be at the home of Wanda and Bob Miller, 25 Ridgewood Drive, Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Neal Ensley, Joe and Jack Walker, Dale Haddock, Ed Gross, and Howard Robinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bell Tower Fund of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
