Hazel Medford

Canton-Hazel Hoglen Medford, age 72, formerly of the Dutch Cove Community died Monday, September 8, 2003, at the Millennium Health and Rehabilitation in Edgewater, MD.

She was a native of Haywood County,where she lived most of her life until moving to Edgewater to live with her daughter in 1999 due to declining health. She was a daughter of the late Willie and Vernie Hoglen. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; Ted, Jerry and Elbert Hoglen.
She was employed by Burger King in Canton for several years.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Medford, and her husband Jeff Leen of Edgewater, MD; a son, Michael Medford and his wife Martha of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Brenda Rathbone of Niota, TN; one brother, Dean Hoglen of Fayetteville, NC; two grandchildren, Hannah T. Medford of Carrboro, NC and Zachary T. Medford of Raleigh, NC and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Morning Star United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jeff Medford officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Association, Western Carolina Chapter, Mountain Region Office, 31 College Place, Ste. D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644.
