Hazel Morgan

Hazel Long Morgan, age 93, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Maggie Valley Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Ellen Henson Long. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mark Roy Morgan, who died in 1978. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a counselor for the MYF and sang in the choir. Hazel loved working in her garden. She is survived by a son, Mark Morgan and his wife, Shirley, of Canton; two daughters, Joyce Deitz and her husband, Billy, of Canton and Aurelia Morgan Riggs of Maggie Valley; a sister, Maxine Smathers of Canton; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Daniel P. Stiles and Reverend J. C. Groce officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
