Hazel Parker Queen, age 86, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at her residence. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Bradshaw and Eva Russell Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph "Dick" Queen who died in 1975; a sister, seven brothers; and a grandchild. Hazel enjoyed gardening, shopping, and cooking for her friends and family. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Until recently, Hazel and Kate Best, her best friend for over 40 years, went to more than six local nursing homes visiting church members and friends. She was also a loyal church member at Beaverdam Baptist Church for over 60 years. She is survived by two sons, Ray Queen of Canton and Richard Queen of Lynchburg, VA; two daughters, Patricia Meredith and her husband, Tom, of Canton and Vicki Hall and her husband, Charles, of Clyde; a sister, Edna Parker Smith of Hendersonville; a brother, Charles Parker and his wife, Ruth, of Jonathan Creek; ten grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Beaverdam Baptist Church with the Reverend Gene Worley and Reverend T. M. Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Pallbearers will be Paul Carson, Billy McMullen, Billy Moss, Tyler McMullen, Michael Queen and Dylan Queen. Honorary pallbearer will be Todd Blaylock. At other times, the family will be at the residence of her daughter, Patricia Meredith. Memorials may be made to Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2524 Beaverdam Road, Canton, NC 28716.
