Hazel Ramsey

Canton-Hazel W. Ramsey, age 89 died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Sumter County, SC and had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Ralph and Una Ramsey of Sumter, SC and was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church. He was a former mayor of Canton, a member of the N.C. Safety Advisory Board and a past member of the board of directors of Southern Paper and Pulp Safety Association. He also served on the board of directors of the Haywood County Library and was a United States Air Force Veteran of World War II having served in Italy. He was a retired employee of Champion International.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Bryson Ramsey and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date.
