Hazel Marie Thomas

Hazel Farless Thomas, 94, of Candler, NC passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Riverbend Retirement Center.  A native of Edenton, NC, she was the daughter of the late William and Nellie Perry Farless.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Theodore A. Thomas who died on November 24, 2023. Their bond was a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together they created a beautiful family.

Hazel was a member of Cheektowaga Baptist Church in Cheektowaga (Buffalo) NY. During her years while attending there, she was a member of the choir, taught Sunday school and volunteered with Vacation bible school.  Hazel volunteered at a neighborhood nursing home and was loved by all the residents. She was an active member of the Eastern Star in Buffalo, NY.

When Ted and Hazel retired to Asheville, NC, Hazel joined Hominy Baptist Church in Candler, NC.  Ted and Hazel volunteered at the local food bank for many years. Hazel was an avid reader and had a green thumb for gardening.

She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Hill (Robert) of Hiawassee, GA and son Timothy Thomas (Alice) of Asheville. She also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren and two beloved great-grandchildren. She had a profound impact on each member of her family, instilling in them values of integrity, compassion, and dedication.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in the Wells Chapel of Faith with Pastor Mike Hicks officiating.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
