Helen Allen

Waynesville, Helen G. Parton Allen, age 82, passed away, Saturday, March 5, 2011 after an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Roy and Nettie Wood Parton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Malven Allen who passed away in 2000, a brother, Elbert Parton and a sister, Ethel Brown. Helen loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Hemphill Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She is survived by one son, Charles Ray Allen and his wife Sue; five daughters and their husbands, Betty Jo and Halley Grant, Dianne and Donnie Bryson, Darlene and Leon Allison, Linda Sue and Ray Clark and June and Glenn Birchfield, Sr.; one sister, Edna Carver; two sisters-in-law, Irene and Wilma Allen; 3 grandchildren, Shondra Grant, Tania Keller and her husband, Billy and Glenn Birchfield, Jr., 2 step-grandchildren, Kim Davis and her husband, Eddie and Jennifer Williams and her husband Josh; 3 great-grandchildren, Alexia Grant, Lydea and Abbey Keller; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Faith and Grace McElroy and special friends, Howard and Barbara Owen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Dewayne Rathbone, Reverend James Hensley and Reverend Warren Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Birchfield, Jr., Billy Keller, Eddie Davis, Loyd Parton, Gary Allen and Chad McCall. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday night at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Dianne and Donnie Bryson, 375 Tarheel Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786.
