Helen Ammons

Waynesville, Helen Justice Ammons, 98, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2016 at Autumn Care. Helen was a native of Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Bunyan Wycliff and Rosa Belle Duvall Justice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roger Ammons, who died in 2005; four sisters, Bess Hege, Lovicia Moses, Burdell Young, Virginia Pattillo; and three brothers, Floyd, Earl and Gus Justice. A 1937 graduate of Franklin High School, she is believed to be the last remaining student of her class. Helen was the secretary at Haywood County's Hazelwood Elementary School for many years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville for 62 years where she served as a Sunday-School teacher and was also a member of both the Baptismal and Bereavement Committees. Helen and Roger were active with the Haywood Dancers for many years and enjoyed spending time with her dancing friends. Helen is survived by a daughter, Rosalind Kraus and husband, Herbert, of Waynesville; a son, Larry Ammons and wife, Cristina, also of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Dr. Justice Kraus and wife, Dr. Noël Ivey, Laura Ammons, Beth Ammons and John Ammons and wife, Laura; and three great-grandchildren, Oskar and Bruno Kraus and Susan Ammons. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince, III officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Waynesville General Fund, P.O. 690, Waynesville, NC 28786.
