Helen Burnette

Canton, Helen Davis Burnette, age 93, went home to heaven on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Haywood Lodge and Retirement Center. Helen was born on December 4, 1922 in Youngstown, Ohio where she lived until the age of 9, before moving to North Carolina. She was the oldest child of the late Earl Warton and Alma Crum Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Olus Burnette who died in 1972; two sisters, Evelyn Hoffman and Betty Jean Messer; one brother Ray Gordon Davis; and a step-son Wayne Hugh Burnette. Helen attended Sand Hill Elementary School in Candler and was a 1940 graduate of Candler High School. She was a member of East Fork Baptist Church in Cruso. She is survived by two sons, Marvin Burnette, and his wife Margaret, of Waynesville and Donald Burnette, and his wife, Joan, of Texas; two brothers, Earl Davis and Richard Davis, and his wife, Pauline, both of Asheville; one sister, Wanda West, and her husband, Joe, of Waynesville; daughter-in-law, Marlene Burnette; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at Gwyn Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Broyhill Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, North Carolina 28721.
