Helen "Rose" Christopher

Mrs. Rose Christopher, 90, of Waynesville, passed away on August 28,2024, at The Elms after an extended illness.

In her younger years, she attended Western Carolina College, where she studied journalism and finance. Later, she worked with the writers Bob Terrell and John Parris, and she had her own column in the Asheville Citizen newspaper. She spent the remainder of her career in finance at Economy Loans, which later became Welcome Finance.

Rose was known for her love of animals, especially her sweet retriever mix, Heinz; her collie, Sanibel; her English Springer Spaniel, Maggie; and her Ragdoll cat, Balsam. She was also a member of the Hazelwood Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school. She spent much of her time caring for others who were ill or less fortunate and contributed to many charitable organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Ellen McGovern Womack. Her beloved husband, Joe Christopher, died in 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Tracey; her brothers, Charles Womack and Fred Muse (Barbara); several nieces and nephews and their families; close family friends; and her cat, Balsam.

The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date with Reverend Patrick Womack officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Christopher's name to the local animal welfare organization of your choice.

Thank you to the staff and administration of Haywood Lodge and Retirement Centers for the excellent care Mrs. Christopher received during the last six years.

The care of Mrs. Christopher has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville
