Helen Buchanan Herndon
Asheville, Helen Buchanan Herndon, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Mission St. Joseph Hospital.
A native of Haywood County, she was daughter of the late Cicero and Annie Bradley Buchanan and was also preceded in death by sisters, Maxine Lowe and Ruth Suttles and Gladys and Frankie Buchanan and a brother, Paul Buchanan. She was a member of Abernethy United Methodist Church in Asheville and a Life Member of Women's Society of Christian Service. She was a twenty five year breast cancer survivor; she lent service to many organizations and did not expect recognition; and loved to feed the birds and squirrels at her home.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, C. Norburn Herndon, a daughter and her husband, Shawn H. and Roger Penny of Charlotte, two brothers, Robey Buchanan and Clarence Buchanan both of Canton and two grandchildren, Airman Roger Penny, Jr. of Lackland AFB, TX and Rebecca Helen Penny an International Baccalaureate Senior at Myers Park High School in Charlotte.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes with Reverend Dr. Henry R. Inman, Jr. and Reverend John Christy officiating and Eulogy by Dr. Virgil Thrash. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
