Helen Hopkins

Cullowhee, Helen Walker Hopkins, age 84, of Blackhawk Road, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Mountain Trace Nursing Home. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Myrtha Inman Walker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her former husband Carl Hopkins and one brother, Frank Walker. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and attended New Hope Baptist Church of Webster. Helen was well known for her hot biscuits and being an immaculate housekeeper. She is survived by two sons, David Hopkins and his wife, Tina, of Charlotte and Sam Hopkins and his wife, Michelle, of Cullowhee; three daughters, Brenda Garcia and her husband, Joe, of Waynesville, Judy Hopkins and Karen Smith and her husband, Gary, all of Sylva; one sister, Christine Scott of Coopersville, Michigan; sister-in-law Alice Walker of Webster, NC; special cousin Jean Willison of Matthews NC; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at New Hope Baptist Church in Webster, NC with Reverend Mike Moore officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
