Clyde, Helen Dortsch Lankford, age 84, went to be with Jesus, Saturday, September 18, 2010 at CarePartners Hospice and Palliative Care in Asheville. She was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT and remained there until moving to Haywood County in 1950. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Ruth Correll Dortsch and was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Oliver Lankford who died in 1968; two sisters, Ruth Bate Dewell, Mariem Riley Althage and one brother, Joe Correll Dortsch. Helen owned and operated Clyde Trading Post for 52 years, was a member of Clyde Central United Methodist Church and was a member of the Civil Defense in WWII. Helen enjoyed teaching roller skating and dance at the Waynesville Recreation Center and in Asheville. She was a caring and loving mother and wife and will be greatly missed by the many people who knew and loved her throughout the years. She is survived by two sons, Mitchell Wayne Lankford and his wife Sandra of Clyde; Neil Leo Lankford and his wife Alicia of Waynesville; one daughter, Marolyn Lankford of Asheville; one sister, Hope Ellene Maughan and a brother, Lee Emmett Dortsch, both of Arizona; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
