Helen Leonard

Canton – Helen Davis Patton Leonard, age 97, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. A native of Churchill, TN and a resident of Haywood County since 1939, Helen was the daughter of the late Henry and Julia Jackson Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Emmett H. Patton, and granddaughter, Katrina Schneider Durkin. For many years, Helen was a drapery instructor at Haywood Community College. She is survived by her husband, Walter Leonard; son, Doug Patton (Linda) of Clyde; two daughters, Mildred Watts (Bill) of Concord, NC, and Juanita Schneider of Canton; a step-daughter, Anne Trudel (John) of Nashville, TN; a sister, Edna Arnold (Roy) of Churchill, TN; grandchildren, William P. Watts, and Ingrid Schneider Whitworth (Stacy); grandson-in-law, Paul Durkin; step-grandchildren, Daniel and Julie Trudel; great-grandchildren, Sarah, John, Anna, and James Durkin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Jack B. Sammons officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Canton General Fund, 74 Academy Street, Canton, NC 28716.
