Helen Murray

Mary Helen Hutson Murray, age 85, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at the Haywood House. A native of Orangeburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late L. A. and Mary Helen Wicks Hutson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Frederick "Fred" Murray who died in July 2012; two brothers; and a sister. She was a member of Canton First Baptist Church and a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Murray was a loving and outgoing wife and mother having served as a Cub Scout den mother, nursery and Sunday School teacher, a substitute teacher in Haywood County Schools; and a dental assistant. Helen's interests included fishing, painting, sewing, gardening, and crafts. She is survived by a daughter, Vanessa Murray Jeffery and her husband, Tommy, of Taylors, SC; a son, Bob Murray and his wife, Julie, of Canton. From a family of eight siblings, she is survived by two sisters, Camille Dunn and Nancy Moise of Texas and two brothers, George L. and Rodney Hutson of Texas; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; a step great-granddaughter; and a beloved family pet, "Noel". A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend James A. Meadows officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
