Helen Smathers

Canton - Helen Wilson Smathers, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was a native of Easley, SC and the daughter of the late Lennie and Beulah Leopard Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jeptha Thomas (JT) Smathers, who died in 2008; a daughter, Donna Smathers Sutton; an infant son, William Ralph Smathers; and numerous brothers and sisters. Helen was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Anita Biggs of Canton; a son, Lenny Smathers and his wife, Vicky, of Granite Falls, NC; a brother, James Crain of Seymore, TN; two grandchildren, Christy Warren Wilson and husband, Eric, of Bethel, NC, and April Warren of Mills River, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Elijah Wilson and Chloe Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2015 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Jack B. Sammons officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
