Henry Briley

October 10, 1926 — August 20, 2003

Clyde-Henry "Cotton" Briley, age 76 of Old Clyde Road, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at his residence.

He was a native of Pitt Co., North Carolina and was a son of the late Jesse and Carie Tally Briley. He was employed as an insurance agent for 20 years with Life and Casualty of Nashville, TN. Mr. Briley was a United States Army Veteran of World War II having served in Okinawa for 14 months in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He received the Occupation Ribbon of Japan and the World War II Victory Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jane Gaddy Briley of Clyde, one daughter; Debra Briley Morton of New Bern, NC, two sons; Joey Briley and his wife Donna of Kinston and Donnie Ledford and his wife Lisa of Canton, his first wife Iona Rouse Briley of New Bern, NC, three sisters; Hazel Newell of Warrenton, NC, Mary Sumrell of Arden, NC, Billie Edwards of Greenville, NC, two brothers; Erastus Briley of Greenville, NC and James Briley of New Bern, NC and 2 grandsons; Dillon-Hunter Ledford and Joseph Daniel Briley.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2003 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Terrell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
