Herbert Turner, Jr.

June 2, 1930 — June 4, 2003

Black Mountain-Herbert Carl Turner, Jr., age 73, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Mountain Area Hospice Solace in Asheville.

He was the son of the late Herbert Carl Turner and Eleanor Stone Turner Raby and William Theodore Raby. He retired from Dayco Corp. in 1992 as the Purchasing Department Manager with 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church in Pawleys Island, S.C. and was a former member of the Waynesville First United Methodist Church. He was a native and former resident of Waynesville until 1992.He was a 1952 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Turner announced Waynesville and Tuscola High School football for WHCC Radio and also served as a stadium public address announcer for numerous years. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mildred Medford Turner of Pawleys Island, S.C., three sons and their wives, Kevin and Lara Turner of Clyde and Bryan and Sandy Turner and Matthew and Amy Turner, all of Snellville, GA, 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Lynn, Michael Roshell Turner, Elizabeth Lena Turner, Joshua Daniel Turner, Megan Paige Turner and Bradley Garrett Turner.

Services will be held at a later date.
