"1929 – 2015" Canton – Herbert King Watts, age 86, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Gordon Coleman and Georgia O'Kelley Watts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 20 years, Dovie Jean Hardin Watts, as well as a step-daughter, Jan Webb; one grandson, Colby Pressley; one brother, G.C. Watts; and two sisters, Mildred Chambers and Jimmie Patterson. Herbert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean conflict. Herbert retired from Champion International with 42 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Hilda Reed Watts; four daughters, Maryann Thompson, (Andy), of Eden, Marci Shelton, (Ronnie), of Waynesville, Lynn Woolard, (Hilliard), of Grifton, and Beth Conner of Clyde; two step-children, Ronnie Boydston, (Nancy) and Debra Rogers (Kevin); five grandchildren, Nathan and Daniel Thompson, Clay and Jamie Conner, and Laura Gunter; three step-grandchildren, Mathew Boydston, Paige Sales, and Jenny Webb; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2015, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack W. Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
