Waynesville-Herman Eugene McCall, age 79, of 164 Spirea Drive, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at his residence. A native of Cashiers, he grew up in the Dana Community of Henderson County and was the son of the late Herman and Cleo Edwards McCall. He was also preceded in death by his wife, June Whitaker McCall who died in 2004; one sister, Betty Davis; and one brother, Don McCall. He was a 1951 graduate of Clemson University and was employed by the State of NC for 25 years as Haywood County Extension Chairman before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Tomato Growers Association and was involved with the Apple and Burley Tobacco Growers Association. He was also a former member of Rotary International. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to farm and to fish. He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer McCall; a son, Eddie E. McCall and his wife, Pamela, of Henderson County; four grandchildren, Nicholas James and Donald Paul Fama, and Elijah Dawson McCall and Haley Maria McCall; and four step-grandchildren, Michael, Luke, Joshua, and Candace. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Whitaker-Moore Cemetery in Mills River. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Wise, Johnny Rathbone, Ray Moody, J.R. Caldwell, and Paul and Nick Fama. Memorials may be given to Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Elk Restoration Project, 160 S. Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786.
