Herman Rary

HERMAN A. RARY Waynesville-Herman Andrew Rary, age 92, formerly of Camelot Drive, passed away on July 21, 2004 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Rowan County, NC, he was the son of the late Cletus Locke and Minnie Lenore Kincaid Rary. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Vetra Mae "Pat" Rary who died in 2001; two brothers; and two sisters. He moved to Waynesville in 1955 from Lenoir, NC to accept the position of foreman of the finishing department at Unagusta. He loved living in Waynesville and after his retirement often enjoyed going for rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway or simply gazing out the window at "those beautiful mountains." He attended Hazelwood Presbyterian Church. He is survived by one daughter, DeAnna Smathers, and her husband, Ronnie, of Waynesville; two sons, Jack Rary, and his wife, Elena of Johnson City, TN, and Bruce Rary, and his wife, Julia Tate, of Waynesville; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
