Herman Luther Towe, age 91, died on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Rosa Lee Long Towe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Presley Towe; three sisters, Mae Cole, Meda Rogers, and Emma Wright; and two brothers, Carroll and J. C. Towe. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and fast-pitch softball. Herman was active at Calvary and Rescue Baptist churches, serving as a deacon and usher over the years. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by a son, Richard Towe and his wife, Jamie; three grandchildren, Casey Towe and his wife, Shannon; Damon Towe, and Charles Towe and his wife, Karine; seven great-grandchildren, Tony Lugaro, Collin, Alanna, Henri, Oliver, Simon, and Makayla Towe; a great-great-grandson, Braydon Duncan; and special dear friends, Dan and Norma Cole. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Barry Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Employee Crisis Fund – ECAP, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
