Herman West

Leicester-Herman L. West, age 90, of Newfound Road, Leicester, died Monday, February 7, 2005 at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. He was a native of Haywood County and had lived in Buncombe County for the last 80 years. He was the son of the late Dennis and Myrtle Hall West. He was retired from American Enka Corp. and enjoyed farming and raising cattle. Herman was a charter member of the Newfound Community Death Benefit Association and one of the oldest members of Grace United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Polly Mehaffey West; his sister, Hazel West Worley; brothers, Roy and Troy West; and grandson, Chris Rhodarmer. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Lee West Rhodarmer and husband Carroll; two sons, Frank and wife Gloria, James and wife Cozette; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. Reverend Jack W. Collins and Reverend James Lamb will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery, Newfound Road, Leicester.
