Hilda Brown

Waynesville, Hilda (Stick) Way Brown, 96, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Howell Way, Jr. and Marguerite Way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Heywood Brown who died in 1999. Hilda graduated from Greensboro College, she taught elementary school for several years. After growing up in Waynesville she moved to Massachusetts and raised her family. After the family was grown she taught Kindergarten. Hilda and her husband later retired and moved to Florida. She returned to her home town of Waynesville after her husband's death. Hilda was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She enjoyed traveling with her brother, Charles Way, and his wife, Mary Ann. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Brown, married to, Kate Winter, of Sebastopol, California; one son, Richard Brown, of Seattle, Washington; one sister, Marquerite "Pody" Hyatt, of Waynesville. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 in the Wells Events & Reception Center with Reverend Sandy Giles, Jr. officiating.
