Hilda Gant

Hilda Howell Gant, age 91, died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her family. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late George and Florence Kuykendall Howell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Gant, who died in 1996; a grandson, Tracey Lane Roberts; two sisters; and three brothers. Hilda was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. Her faith in God was the most important thing in her life. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. Her family meant the world to her. The happiest times, for Hilda, were those times surrounded by her family. She is survived by three sons, Darrell Gant and his wife, Gerri, of Canton, Jack Gant and his wife, Glenda, and Charles Gant and his wife, Linda, all of Brevard; one daughter, Sharon Roberts and her husband, Mack, of Waynesville; one brother, Arnold Howell of Canton; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her special angel, Betty Watkins, who attended to her needs and helped take care of her. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Stacy Hightower and Reverend Wayne Willett officiating. Entombment will follow at The Horizon at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
