Hilda Jenkins

Waynesville, Hilda Faye Hardin Jenkins, age 84, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Haywood House in Canton. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Clifford and Mary Chapman Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Swan Jenkins, who died in 2012, and a sister, Hazel Hardin Lance. Hilda was employed as a nurse's assistant and was a member of Swann's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Dandridge, Tennessee. Hilda's family will always remember the great meals, clean clothes, and lovely home as well as the prayers, the kisses and spankings when needed. She took care of runny noses, sled rides and car wrecks and loved picnics, fishing, camping, band practice, parades, and even report cards. She also loved birthdays and weddings and her sons and daughters-in-laws, grandbabies and great-grandchildren. "Laughing so hard we lost our breath and sometimes crying just as hard! Mom was always there, just down the hall or in the kitchen or near the telephone to answer a kid's call with just the right words to let us all know it would get better." She is survived by two daughters, Mary Penland and her husband, John, and Judy Whitener of Valdese; one son, William Earl "Bill" Jenkins of Covington, Georgia; two sister-in-laws, Willa Moody and Ollie Morgan of Waynesville; seven grandchildren, Anne Marie, Michelle (Charles) Mandi (Paul), Aaron (Shae), Laura (Travis), Heather and Rick; five great-grandchildren, Krissy, Cory, Ali, Bryanna, and Elizabeth; three great-great grandchildren, Kaylee, Jayden, and Charles, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Putnam officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. A special thanks to all the angels at the Haywood House.
