Hilda Rice

Hilda Harkins Rice, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Hospice of Wake County. Born in Buncombe County but a lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Taylor Kimms and Carmen Bonnie Culberson Harkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Monroe Rice; two brothers, Robert and Curtis Harkins; and a sister, Helen Harkins. Hilda was a graduate of Canton High School and Blanton Business College. She was employed by Champion International as a paper inspector, a member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church and a past member of the Haywood County Crafters Guild. She will be remembered for being a loving mother and wife. She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Rice Warren and her husband, Scott, of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Victor Taylor Warren of Chapel Hill and Sarah Bailey Warren of Raleigh; and a niece, Kim Harkins Rusk of Clyde. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Beaverdam United Methodist Church with Reverend Hugh Russell officiating. Inurnment will follow at Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaverdam Community Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 28 Garrett Drive, Canton, NC 28716.
