Hillery Gibson

Waynesville, Hillery Sherman Gibson, age 90, of the Stamey Cove Community, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at The Homestead. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late F.A. and Bernice Rogers Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee Cook Gibson, who died October 15, 2013; a son, Gordon Gibson; two sisters, Pauline Tolley and Margaret Wilson; and one brother, Ralph Gibson. He was a U.S. WWII Army Veteran. Hillery retired from Champion International after many years of service. He loved to fly fish for trout and enjoyed going on Mission trips. He was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons, Pastor Ricky Gibson and his wife, Marlene and Terry "Bird" Gibson and his wife, Diana and a brother, T.M. Gibson and his wife, Patty, all of Canton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Maple Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Tommy Carlisle and Reverend Bud Lance officiating. Burial will follow at Center Pigeon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
