Hollis Hampton

March 16, 1927 — August 13, 2009

Waynesville, Hollis Roy Hampton, age 82, died on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Swain County, he had lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late William Clyde and Lorine Stepp Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Ernest, and James and one sister, Jeanette. He was a US Army veteran of World War II stationed in Germany. He was employed by Giles Chemical Company for ten years and retired in 1989. Hollis enjoyed gardening and raising a harvest and loved being outdoors doing yard work and farming. He also loved to cook. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sarah Lou Moody Hampton; a son, Roger Dale Hampton, of Waynesville; three daughters, Rita Passmore and her husband, Johnny, Linda Roland, and her husband, Neal, and Sarah Wyatt and her husband, Ed, all of Waynesville; two sisters, Shirley Williamson and Evelyn Allison, both of Oregon; three brothers, Roy and Ray Hampton of Oregon and Troy Hampton of Asheville; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2009 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Neal Roland and Reverend Johnny Passmore officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
