Howard Dotson

Howard Lee Dotson, age 93, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Leonard and Mary Noland Dotson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Medford Dotson, who died in 2008. He retired from Champion International with 42 years of service as a maintenance supervisor and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Howard was a collector of many things and he enjoyed, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving during World War II. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Patton and her husband, Doug, of Clyde, Mary Frances Phillips of Canton, and Lee Anna Hardin and her husband, Steve, of Clyde; a sister, Hilda Hyatt of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Traci Wike (Mitch), Kelli McLeod (Jonathan), Brad Phillips (Jennelle), Clint Hardin (Natalie), Wendy Blue, and Ben Hardin (Amy); 12 great grandchildren; and his faithful companion, his dog "Bingo". A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Jeff King and Mr. Mitch Wike officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to his special and loving caregivers.
