Howard Glenn Jaynes, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 03, 2011 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Robert and Lydia Johnson Jaynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Pinner Jaynes, who died in 1994. Howard retired from Champion International with 35 years of service. He was a member of Plains United Methodist Church and he also attended Maple Grove Baptist Church. Howard was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW Post 5198. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Gibson and her husband, Terry "Bird", of Waynesville, and Theresa Berrong and her husband, John, of Canton; five grandchildren, Laura and Wayne Abbe, Tracy Berrong, Rebecca and Robert Frazier, Jason and Amber Gibson, and Carey and Sarah Gibson; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Austin and the Reverend Tommy Carlisle officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial may be made to Bon-A-Venture Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 32 Rhoda Street, Canton, NC 28716.
