Howard Splitt

Waynesville-Howard Arthur Splitt, age 95, of Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community, died on Friday, November 12, 2004 at his residence. He was a native of Rochester, New York and had resided in Waynesville since 1965. He was the son of the late Albert and Stella Shaw Splitt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Bridgeman. He attended Alfred University and graduated from the University of Rochester. For many years he was in chemical sales, and in 1965 he purchased Giles Chemical in Waynesville. He was a member of the Waynesville Rotary Club, with 63 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Genevieve Stesel Splitt; two daughters, Beverly Keller and her husband, Guy of Charlotte, and Jane Welch and her husband, Tim of Waynesville; one son, Stephen Splitt and his wife, Susan of Athens, Georgia; one sister, Myrtice Mault of California; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in the St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville. The Reverend Dr. Howard W. White, Jr. and Reverend Morgan Gardner will officiate. A reception will follow in the gathering area, following the services for the family to receive friends. A committal service will be held at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, November 21, 2004 in the Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains Memorial Garden in Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Howard A. Splitt Rotary Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 812, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains, 394 N. Haywood Street, Waynesville, NC 28786. The family would like to thank the staff of Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community for all of their love and support.
