Hubert Chambers, age 85, died on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Loner and Estes Warren Chambers. He was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters. He was a member, former deacon, and currently an honorary deacon of Riverside Baptist Church. Hubert loved his grandchildren and was a very proud parent and grandparent. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II stationed in France and Korea. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis P. Chambers; two sons, Wayne Chambers and his wife, Martha, of Clarksville, TN and Steve Chambers of Waynesville; a sister, Ruth Reece of Waynesville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Logan/Cecil Volunteer Fire Department, 4291 Lake Logan Road, Canton, NC 28716.
