Hugh "Jerry" Liner, age 65, of Liner Street passed away early Wednesday, morning December 12, 2007, at the Brian Center in Waynesville after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on November 12, 1942 in Haywood County where he lived his whole life and was the son of the late Hugh Haywood and Irene Byrd Liner. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Liner Wyatt. He was a graduate of Canton High School and Asheville Buncombe Technical College with a degree in auto mechanics and he was also a certified welder. He worked at BASF for 28 years and later with Brookshire Plumbing and Heating. He honorably served in the Army National Guard for six years and was a member of North Canton Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his cat "Smokey" of 17 years. He is survived by a sister, Jane Liner Grahl of Waynesville and was a special uncle to his nephew, Scott Grahl of Waynesville and his niece, Kim Grahl McAbee and her husband, Michael, of Franklin, KY. He is also survived by three great nieces, Sara, Emily, and Natalie McAbee all of Franklin, KY. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007, at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Pallbearers will be Gary Brown, Lowell Dixon, Eric, Kirk, and Troy Dills, and Jimmy Arrington. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 90 Stiles Road, Canton, NC 28716.
