Hunter Mills

Waynesville, Hunter Lee Mills, age 27, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Memorial Mission.

A native of Haywood County, he was the son of Clifford and Deborah Mills.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Herbert Mills, and maternal grandfathers, Bob Clampitt and Furman Donaldson.

Hunter had a love for everything outdoors, he was an avid camper and enjoyed his times at the Happy Holiday and KOA campgrounds in Cherokee.   Hunter’s favorite activity at the campgrounds was fishing.  A close second was just sitting outside the camper surrounded by his family.  He was an active participant in the Haywood County Special Olympics.  His two favorite events were the tennis ball toss and wheelchair race.  Hunter had a zest for life and that enthusiasm endeared him to everyone he had the pleasure of meeting.

Left to treasure his memory are his maternal grandmother, Helen Clampitt of Waynesville; paternal grandmother, Joann Mills of Waynesville; an aunt, Candy Espinosa (Angel), of Clyde; four uncles, Steve Donaldson (Annette) of Waynesville, Clyde Mills (Martha) of Bethel, Charles Mills (Judy) of Waynesville, and Chris Mills of Sylva; a special friend and caregiver, Jenifer Rogers (Brandon) of Clyde; and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020 under the Gospel Tent at Dellwood Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Rogers, Reverend Shawn Porter, and Reverend Nick Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.  Serving as pallbearers are Jason Herbert, Chad Shipman, Austin Donaldson, Colton Donaldson, Josh Gibbs, and Dustin Espinosa.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. ,under the Gospel Tent at Dellwood Baptist Church.

The care of Hunter has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes.
