Middletown, RI-Ida L. G. Woody Harrison, age 90, a former resident of Asheville, died Saturday, September 11, 2004. She was born in Charleston, NC on March 16, 1914. She was the daughter of Swan Woody and Sarah Crisp Woody. She graduated from Dorlan Bell School for Girls, Bryson City, as well as (in 1960) the LPN program at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was the Superintendent of Cafeterias for the Haywood County Schools in the 50's. She worked as a LPN at St. Joseph's Hospital from 1960 to 1965. She and her late husband, Joe C. Harrison, managed the Princess Ann Hotel for Retired Persons in Asheville from 1965-1972. Thereafter, she worked as a LPN at Brooks-Howell Home on Merrimon Avenue until retirement. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital, and RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and a VISTA worker for The Land of The Sky Regional Council. She moved to Jamestown, RI in 1997 to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Harrison was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Asheville, where she and Mr. Harrison were married, July 31, 1944. Surviving are her son, Joseph C. Harrison, and his wife, Stephanie F. Cooper, of Asheville, and daughter, Anna Harrison Auld, and her husband, Charles Auld, of Jamestown, RI; two granddaughters and seven step-grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her husband, Joe C. (Buss) Harrison, her sister, Hazel Woody Palace and brother, Roan Woody. A family service and burial will be at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Old Clyde Road, on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Roger Arnspagar of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Arden, NC officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Joseph Harrison and Stephanie Cooper on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Land of the Sky Regional Council, Asheville, NC, or to your favorite charity.
