ILA LONG FRANKLIN

Waynesville-Ila Kay ''Kate'' Long Franklin, age 68, died Monday, April 7, 2003 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence S. and Elsie Sutton Long. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl Reno Franklin, who died April 14, 2002; three sisters, Edith Long, Evalee Long, and Elease Shelty; and three brothers, William Avery Long, Fuller Long, and James Long. She was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, June Kirkpatrick and her husband, Chuck, of the Crabtree Community; a son, Harold Franklin, and his wife, Eugenia, of Waynesville; two sisters, Oma Lee Gunter of Waynesville and Annie Mae Allison of Hot Springs; four brothers, Jack Long, and Claude Long, both of Waynesville and Lawrence Long, Jr. and Robert Lee Long, both of Cosby, Tennessee; and one granddaughter, Amanda Jane Franklin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2003 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ferguson, Reverend Dr. W. T. Medlin, Jr., and Reverend Bobby Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from Noon - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service, and at other times, at the home of June and Chuck Kirkpatrick, 4151 Hyder Mtn. Road, Clyde, NC 28721. Pallbearers will be Owen and Keith Shelty, Tony and Steve Long, and James, Richard, Michael, and Kenny Franklin.
