Ila Yount

Waynesville-Ila Jean Evans Yount, age 78, of 192 Thomas Park, died on Sunday, September 17, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. A native and life-long resident of Waynesville, she was the daughter of the late Harry Willis Evans, Sr. and Annette Smith Evans. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver "Babe" Yount, who died in 1995; a sister, Mary Sue Evans; and two brothers, Harry W. Evans, Jr. and Arthur Paul Evans. Ila was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School and attended Western Carolina University. She was Director of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville Kindergarten and Daycare and retired after 25 years service. Ila also taught creative writing at Haywood Community College for ten years and was a published author of two novels, Patchwork and Sunshine and Shadows. She was also published in Wayah Review, Sunburst, and edited three literary magazines. She was a member of the NC Writers Network, National Association of Storytellers, and Haywood County Literacy Council. She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Geouge and her husband, Jim, of Canton; two sons, Cecil E. Yount and his wife, Kathy, of Waynesville and David O. Yount and his wife, Kimberly, of Los Angeles, CA; one brother, Charles Gary Evans and his wife, Marilyn, of Smithfield, VA; and four grandchildren, Sarah, Kathryn, and Jamie Geouge, and Lizbeth Yount. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. W. Lyn Sorrells and Reverend Garland Young officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the services at the church, and at other times, at the residence. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Noland, Paul Evans, Dr. Mark Jaben, Jeff Henderson, DeRoy Shuler, Brett Evans, and Nick Nicholson.
